THE STORY

Nyanwuor is one of the few Lost Girls of Sudan settled in the United States. During the two-decade-long civil war in her country, soldiers from Northern Sudan attacked her village, and she was forced to flee. Along with thousands of other children, she walked for days from the Sudan to a refugee camp in Kenya. The children faced starvation, disease, and wild animals. In 2004 Nyanwuor was given asylum in the United States.

Now living in Dallas, Nyanwuor struggles to take care of herself and her family. She dreams of one day returning to her country. She wants her son, Alier, to see the beautiful and peaceful Sudan where she was born.
